How
RF Level Switches Work
These switches employ a radio frequency (RF) balanced
impedence bridge circuit to detect if the probe is in contact with
the material that is to be sensed.
A high-frequency/low-power radio signal is emitted by the electronics
in the head of the level switch. The probe serves as an antenna to
detect the frequency.
Calibration is done when material is not in contact with the probe.
The bridge is balanced by turning the adjustment pot to find the bridge
balance threshold.
When material comes in contact with the probe, the bridge becomes
unbalanced and the comparing circuit realizes the change. This causes
a relay output to change state.
This relay output may be used for high or low level alarming, or to
control level by turning pumps on or off or by opening and closing
valves. |
The
Advantages of Using RF Technology
Babbitt RF Level Switches have many advantages
over other technologies used for level sensing:
- Ideal
for use in both liquids and bulk solids.
- Rugged
construction for the roughest industrial applications. These
products perform in high temperature, high pressure, high vibration,
dirt and sludge and many other applications requiring sturdy,
high-quality design.
- Solid-state
electronic sensing has no moving parts.
- RF
technology ignores significant product build-up on the probe.
- Simple
installation and calibration.
- The
probe length is easily modified.
- The
modular electronics are easily serviced.
- Explosion-proof
housing is standard.
- Customizable
for extreme applications.
